For those of you who are new to my page, Hello! I’m Jessica, wife to Cody, and mom to 2 boys and a girl. I have a background in architecture and designed this home that we just built in a small Texas town. We self-contracted the build…and we are still finishing up a few projects. Most days you can find me on Instagram @the.old.barn

This week I created this sky landscape painting to go between the bookshelves. I have no formal painting cred or training but I like the way it turned out. I cut a piece of plywood to the size I wanted (30″x 40″) and started painting. My husband used some scrap 1x2s to make a frame for it.

I knew I wanted 2 sconces flanking the artwork, and I selected these beauties from Crystorama because of their classic look. I also love the little shades to soften the light. These fixtures are called Riverdale in polished nickel. I wasn’t sure if I would hard wire or do the “Magic Light” trick, so the shades were definitely necessary. If you’re not familiar with the Magic Light trick, I’ll explain in a video below.

The sconces arrived and they are even better in person! With these sconces, you have options: 1) about how long you want that bottom piece. They come with 2 different lengths, or your can just attache the ball directly to the bottom of the light fixture without either extension. 2) They come with both a silver (or same color metal) ball finials AND a glass one as shown here. 3) There are 8 choices for metallic finishes, and each one is gorgeous! These sconces are linked here.

The magic light trick

I did not invent this method, it has been around a while, but I made a video to show how easy itis and how well it works with this sconce. Here’s a link to the pop lights I used.
